These are the two pilots of MTV's Beavis and Butt-Head television series Created, Written, Directed, Starring and Musically composed by Mike Judge for the MTV Animation as part of Liquid Television in 1992.
These originally aired as part of Liquid Television and did not include music videos.
Plots[]
Frog Baseball[]
:Main article: Frog Baseball
The short starts out with a title card that says "Inbred Jed's Homemade Cartoons", with the character of Inbred Jed staring at the camera and cackling. Two teenagers by the name of Beavis and Butt-Head are shown switching channels on their TV, watching TV commercials and laughing at a Suzanne Somers Thighmaster commercial. Later, while blowing up insects with firecrackers in a field, Beavis and Butt-Head spot a frog and exclaim "frog baseball!"; they then proceed to play baseball with the frog. After they kill the frog, they see a poodle and charge after the dog with a baseball bat, exclaiming "dog baseball!". The credits roll as the viewer hears the duo hit the poodle with a bat and the poodle yelping in pain (not seen).
The Liquid Television version of Frog Baseball added a new end title card featuring a still from the episode where Butt-Head hits Beavis with a baseball bat. A disclaimer states that no animals were harmed in the making of the episode, except Beavis.
Peace, Love and Understanding[]
:Main article: Peace, Love and Understanding
After sniffing modeling glue, Beavis and Butt-head see a TV ad for a monster-truck show. When they attend, they witness Van Driessen being splattered all over the stadium, a collision with the port-a-potties, and Sterculius, the Roman God of Feces.

DVD[]
It is available on Disc 3 of Volume 3 of The Mike Judge Collection and on the Mike Judge's Most Wanted DVD as a special feature. It is also slightly edited from the MTV broadcast and the Liquid TV version. It is more on par with the Spike & Mike's Sick and Twisted Festival of Animation airing. The end title card that showed a still from the cartoon in which Butt-head's bat made contact with Beavis' head and reads "No animals were harmed in the making of this film... except for Beavis" is removed from the DVD version. It instead shows the original disclaimer “No animals were harmed in the making of this film” leaving out the Beavis part, like in the liquid TV version and the MTV TV version.
Cultural references[]
The duo play Black Sabbath's "Iron Man" and Deep Purple's "Smoke on the Water" on air guitar.
The short, along with the episode "Held Back", was also mentioned in the Beavis and Butt-Head episode "Snitchers", the 20th episode of the 8th season. The way the duo scream "FROG BASEBALL!" in the short was also used in a music video commentary in "Give Blood".
Behind the scenes[]
Frog Baseball[]
- "Frog Baseball" features lower-quality animation than later episodes.
- Beavis and Butt-Head's voices sound notably different, with deeper tones compared with later episodes.
- Chronologically, For Better or Verse takes place after this episode.
Peace, Love and Understanding[]
- The infomercial in the opening scene was a parody of "Tom Vu's Secrets of Success".
- This is the last Beavis and Butt-Head episode to be animated using cel-painted animation, until it was re-used later on from the Season 3 episode Comedians.
- Mike Judge himself despises this episode's animation, alongside with Door-To-Door and Give Blood. He described it as "awful, I don't know why anybody liked it... I was burying my head in the sand."[1]
- The uncensored version of this short was made available on VHS under the title Spike & Mike's Sick and Twisted Festival of Animation, Volume 1.
- This is the first appearance of David Van Driessen.
- Despite being killed by the monster truck, Van Driessen still appears in future episodes.
- Van Driessen says "okay" normally instead of the "m'kay" which would later become the character's trademark.
- This is the only episode of the original series in which Van Driessen wears a tie-dyed shirt instead of his usual blue T-shirt with the peace sign.
Goofs[]
Frog Baseball[]
- The color of Beavis's shorts changes from gray to red as he begins singing the heavy metal riffs. This animation is reused in Peace, Love and Understanding.
- When Beavis says "Whoa check it out Butt-Head. Mrs. Higgin's poodle", Butt-Head is the one pointing.
Peace, Love and Understanding[]
- The color of Beavis's shorts changes from gray to red as he begins singing the heavy metal riff. This goof also appeared in Frog Baseball.
