CBS (an acronym formed from its full name, Columbia Broadcasting System) is a television network launched in 1927 (for radio) and 1941 (for television) that served as the original founder and owner of Viacom until 1971, when the two were separated throughout the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s. In 2000, the two combined with each other. This purchase resulted in lots of changes, particularly that CBS owned Paramount's television division and UPN, the purchase was reversed in 2006. 13 years after their separation, another purchase took place with a closure date of December 4, 2019 that formed the company Paramount Global as a result.
CBS has produced many show franchises through creating spinoffs of their shows. Most spin-offs listed below are within the procedural genre and focus on different operations from the main series.
It is well known for its eye logo to the point where it earned the unofficial pseudonym Eye Network and some of its subsidiaries have adopted that as their name etymology (specifically CBS EYE Productions, Eyemark Entertainment and CBS Eye on People).
They served (through CBS Electronics) as the international distributors of the ColecoVision gaming platform, labeling it as CBS ColecoVision to highlight their involvement in the platform's overseas marketing.
