Fire Country (formerly known as Cal Fire) is an American television drama series created by Max Thieriot, Tony Phelan and Joan Rater and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer for CBS, starring Thieriot. It premiered on October 7, 2022. This show is heavily inspired by Max Thieriot's experiences growing up in Northern California fire country and stems from an original idea by the actor. Seeking redemption and a shortened prison sentence, young convict Bode Donovan joins a firefighting program that returns him to his small Northern California hometown, where he and other inmates work alongside elite firefighters to extinguish massive blazes across the region.

Plot[]

Bad choices don’t make a bad man. At least that’s what Bode Donavan’s been told. Midway through a five-year prison stretch, he’s been trying to convince himself of it, too. He gets the chance to prove it, signing on to an unconventional prison-release program: in exchange for reduced sentences, convicts are paired with firefighters battling Northern California wildfires. The heat is turned up when Bode’s assigned to the program in his rural hometown, the place where all his troubles began.

Development[]

On May 26th 2022, CBS is planning to air a new television drama in 2022 called "Fire Country," about a group of prison inmates helping fight Northern California wildfires alongside Cal Fire. The program is one that Cal Fire actually uses, which allows for early release for its inmate firefighters.

Trivia[]

  • Fire Country is the second Jerry Bruckheimer-produced television series to air in the 2020s on CBS, the first being is the 2021 series CSI: Vegas.
    • Oddly enough, it is the second project from Paramount Global to be a firefighter, the first being the 2019 film Playing with Fire, and it is one of the first shows that they used "A PARAMOUNT COMPANY" byline on the CBS Studios logo.
