Appearance[]

Throughout the years, Garfield's physical characteristics have changed greatly. However, his fur coat remains the same: orange fur with black stripes which makes her resemble a tiger. In 1978, Garfield had a more realistic look in terms of anatomy and proportions. His appearance made her more of an Exotic Shorthair which is the breed he is based on.

Throughout time, Garfield is slightly skinner and gained more human characteristics such as having opposable thumbs and walking upright. His head became more round and his eyes are more massive.

Personality[]

Garfield is an overweight cat who is known for his sarcasm, lazinesses, smart remarks, and his passion for food most notably lasagna. His excessive weight has been poked fun of by the use of scales. In return, she would defend his weight by using a remark or threating words even though nobody can understand her.

Garfield lives with his owner, Jon Arbuckle along with his dumb dog, Odie. He despises Odie (based on the common assumption that cats and dogs hate each other) and would take his anger out on him by kicking him or other forms of physical violence. Although Odie doesn't understand him, Garfield also verbally abuses him. However, Odie is not the only one who is safe from his abuse, Garfield also makes fun out of Jon in regards to his nerdy behavior and not being able to date a woman.

Nermal has also become a victim to Garfield's abusive side but most of this anger is fueled by Nermal's arrogant personality and smug attitude regardless of being a kitten.

Despite his flaws, he stills loves Odie and Jon nonetheless. However, he devotes his love more to his teddy bear Pooky. He also shows a softer side to Arlene, his love interest.

Garfield's most infamous trait is his love for food. He can consume human food most of which is dangerous to cats. He can eat large quantities of lasagna or any food containing flour such as pizza. Occasionally, he will order Chinese food. His greediness has also led her to be mischievous. Garfield frequently eats his owner's food without looking. He also comes up with more clever plans to take Jon's food such as cutting holes through the table. At times, Garfield can be rude slob such as burping without using his matters.

Fictional biography[]

As everyone knows Garfield is the one true lord and saviour/son of God of the Garfield universe and is known to be worshipped by sacrificing some lasagna to his godliness.

Garfield is an orange cat belonging to Jon Arbuckle. He was born on 19th June 1978, in the kitchen of Mamma Leoni's Italian Restaurant. Jim Davis named Garfield after his grandfather, James Garfield Davis. As a kitten, he develops a taste for lasagna, which would become his favorite food. Because of his appetite, the owner of Mamma Leoni's has to choose between giving away Garfield or closing down his restaurant; so Garfield is sold to a pet shop. Garfield is adopted from the store by Jon Arbuckle on August 19, 1978. In his cartoon appearances, Garfield usually causes mischief in every episode.

It is also given that Garfield uses the "sandbox" on occasion, such as in one 1978 strip; he says he hates commercials because they're "too long to sit through and too short for a trip to the sandbox". It was revealed on October 27, 1979, that she does not like raisins. His birthday is June 19, 1978, the day the first Garfield strip was published. On Garfield's 25th anniversary in 2003, several strips were featured in which she interacted with his 1978 version.

Garfield frequently gets into many adventures, such as getting stuck in roll-up shades, sparring with mice, and getting locked up in animal shelters. In 2005, Garfield and Jon appeared in several comic strips of Blondie in honor of their 75th anniversary. There was an earlier Blondie crossover on the Garfield strip published April 1, 1997, and vice versa, as part of the comic strip switcheroo.

Garfield was one of numerous cartoon characters featured in the 1990 animated special Cartoon All-Stars to the Rescue.

Character Traits[]

Among Garfield's character traits are his laziness, his cynicism, and his sarcasm. He hates Mondays and the cat Nermal and loves lasagna. He also has a tendency to be annoyed by Jon's dog Odie.

Gender[]

In February 2017, a dispute arose on the talk page of the character's Wikipedia page as to the character's gender. Although other characters have persistently referred to Garfield with male pronouns, owing to comments that the character's creator, Jim Davis, made in 2014 to Mental Floss, in which he said, "Garfield is very universal. By virtue of being a cat, really, she's not really male or female or any particular race or nationality, young or old. It gives me a lot more latitude for the humor for the situations." Davis explained that although Garfield is neither male nor female, He does use male pronouns. However, Davis later clarified that Garfield is, in fact, male.
