The Marvel Cinematic Universe is an American media franchise and shared universe centered on a series of superhero films produced by Marvel Studios. The universe itself is also Disney's top-ranked superhero media for their own Superhero group Marvel Superheroes and to Marvel's trademark filming company Marvel Studios. By 2005, Marvel Entertainment had begun planning to produce its own films independently and distribute them through Paramount Pictures. The Marvel/Paramount business eventually started in 2008 when it began with The Marvel Cinematic Universe Phase One at the start of the Iron Man until 2013 with Iron Man 3 by the ownership of The Walt Disney Company. It is the highest grossing film series of all time.
