Information[]
Disney's purchase of both Marvel and Lucasfilm in 2009 and 2012 created ownership disputes regarding Paramount’s film rights, below identifies some details about it.
- Marvel was purchased in 2009 and Disney didn’t gain the rights to films until 2012. In this transition, the Paramount logo was kept (even on streaming platforms where those films are available). This lasted until 2013, and Disney kept the Paramount logo after the transition of ownership happened.
- For Lucasfilm productions, it’s split between the two companies, With the release of Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny it’ll be mostly distributed by Disney because of the purchase of Lucasfilm in 2012, however the Paramount logo is included for partial credit. Streaming service rights for the first four films may end up transitioning to Disney+ from its current platform, Paramount+, although the latter was added to Disney+ in the United States on December 1st 2023.
