Ren Höek is one of the main characters in The Ren and Stimpy Show. He is a deranged, psychotic, and abusive chihuahua. In seasons 1–2, Ren was voiced by John Kricfalusi but after being fired from Nickelodeon, he was voiced by Billy West for the rest of the seasons. He also provides the voice of Stimpy.
Appearance[]
Ren is a peach-colored chihuahua with pink eyes and is commonly seen with three stains of hair on his forehead. One noticeable trait with Ren is his tail; as it would appear and disappear in some episodes. John Kricfalusi stated that Ren's tail was difficult to animate and the staff hated working on it, therefore, his tail was left out most of the time.
Personality[]
Ren, although significantly smarter than the cat, is a short-tempered and emotionally unstable dog. Ren has trouble staying calm in any situation he is, this leads him to emotional outbursts, screaming, laughter and abuse. Most of this is caused by Stimpy and other characters in the show who annoys him. It is very likely that Ren suffers from physiological and antisocial issues, especially when he is alone. In "The Big Shot!", Ren starts admitting that he misses Stimpy since he's so famous in Hollywood and starts hallucinating about his best friend. This is also relevant when he is put in surreal situations. In "Space Madness" after being trapped in the ship so long decides to take a bath. However, it doesn't take too long for him to lose his sanity as he mistakes soap for an ice cream bar. He is also shown to quite lazy at times, making Stimpy do all the household work and care for him.
Being the intelligent one out the duo, Ren comes up with grand schemes to obtain what they want, usually food or living a good life. If these plans fail, he will put Stimpy to blame without acknowledging himself or get hurt by side characters. In "Big Baby Scam" he gets punched 50 times by the babies who gave them 50 dollars to take a vacation. His plans can also backfire on him.
In Adult Party Cartoon, John Kricfalusi returned to Voice him, but Ren still retains his traits but much darker. He is shown to love torturing animals for a lengthy period of time.

Stimpy[]
While hard to believe, Stimpy is Ren's best friend as he cannot deal with being lonely. At best, their relationship is unhealthy with Ren socking Stimpy for his borderline intelligence and childish antics. One catchphrase that Ren uses a lot is "eediot" whenever Stimpy says something stupid, screws up a plan or mocks his intelligence. Most of the time, Stimpy doesn't mind Ren slapping him across the face but in some episodes, he is aware of Ren's abuse. Stimpy also cares for Ren and helps clean across the house. Despite's Ren never-ending abusive cycle, Ren shows sympathy for Stimpy whenever he is down.
