Royal Woods is a fictional city in Michigan that serves as the main setting of The Loud House. Located south of Saginaw Bay (according to a map seen in the episode "ARGGH! You for Real?"), it is based on the real-life Michigan city of Royal Oak, where the series' creator Chris Savino lived in his youth. It is home to approximately 20,000 residents.
During the 1600s, Royal Woods was simply known as Woods. This was where the Loud family's ancestors settled after they were (unknowingly) betrayed by their castle caretaker in Scotland, Aggie, when she banished them from their kingdom.
Sometime in the 400 years between the ancestors' arrival and the present (more specifically during the 19th century), Woods was renamed to Royal Woods, after an oak tree that lived there.

The Loud House is the eponymous household of the Loud family.
The Santiago house is the former residence of Bobby, Ronnie Anne, Maria and Arturo (presumably, prior to his and Maria's divorce). It is currently unknown if anyone has bought the house after the Santiagos moved to Great Lakes City.
The Spokes house is the residence of Rusty Spokes' family. To date, it has only been seen in "Back in Black".
Mr. Grouse's house is the residence of the Louds' next-door neighbor.
The Yates house is the residence of the Yates family. It is located across the street from the Loud house and was previously owned by the Crowley family. To date, it has only been seen in "Future Tense".
Lord Tetherby's mansion is seen only in "Out on a Limo".
Sunset Canyon Retirement Home is a nursing home where the Loud siblings' maternal grandfather, Albert, lives.

"Driving Miss Hazy" confirms that Royal Woods is in the state of Michigan, and the city is based on Chris Savino's hometown of Royal Oak, Michigan, which is about twenty to thirty minutes away from Detroit, and is considered a suburb of that city.
Royal Oak, Michigan has a very low crime rate, and is considered to be one of the safest cities in America. Since Royal Woods is based on that place, it has the same crime rate. This is mentioned in "Lock 'n' Loud". Most of the crimes that are committed there are minor ones like littering.
