Snow Day is a Nickelodeon comedy film franchise created by Will McRobb and Chris Viscardi only for the Nickelodeon Group. The franchise's plot took place during the events of a record snow day in upstate New York, depicting various subplots including a group of kids planning to thwart a snowplow driver in an attempt to get a second snow day. the original film Snow Day was met with generally negative reviews but was a box office success. But 22 years later, the musical film remake of the original ready to be released on Paramount+ in Winter 2022.

Snow Day (2000)[]

A voice-over by Hal Brandston describes how snow forms from crystallized water and how a snow day isn't just an event when schools close, but a day of magic. Despite an unusually warm season, a snow storm descends upon Syracuse, New York, leaving the Brandston family's neighborhood covered in a blanket of snow. This causes Principal Ken Weaver to become a target for children that pelt him with snowballs.

The musical remake of a group of kids who are determined to achieve their dreams when their school closes for a snow day. Siblings Hal and Natalie Brandston discover that anything is possible on a snow day when a surprise winter whiteout offers them the chance to break routines and take giant risks. Inspired to pursue his crush, Claire, Hal enlists the help of his best friend, Lane, to help him express his feelings, and Natalie decides she must challenge the town's cranky snowplow man if she wants to pull off the task of creating a second snow day.

Snow Day (2000)[]

In February 1999, it was announced Nick and Paramount would team on Snow Day.[1] The film was filmed in Cedarburg, Wisconsin, as well as Edmonton and Calgary, Alberta. Much of the outdoor snow scenes were filmed at the Bonnie Doon Park in Edmonton, which had recently had a do-over and offered a natural setting in an urban location.
The story was originally set to be based on the television series The Adventures of Pete & Pete, but the idea was scrapped and it was rewritten as a stand-alone story.
The film premiered on January 29th, 2000, and was theatrically released on February 11th, 2000. It takes place during the events of a record snow day in upstate New York, depicting various subplots including a group of kids planning to thwart a snowplow driver in an attempt to get a second snow day. The original music score for the movie itself is made by An Extremely Goofy Movie composer, Steve Bartek.
Snow Day (2022)[]

On March 1, 2022, it was announced that a remake of the film had gone into production in Montreal. Reimagined as a musical, it will star Ky Baldwin, Jerry Trainor, Laura Bell Bundy, Rob Huebel, Michaela Russell, Shelby Simmons, and Fabi Aguirre. It is set to release on Nickelodeon and Paramount+ on December 16.[2][3]
