Stan Marsh is the protagonist of South Park. He is loosely based on his creator and voice actor, Trey Parker who also provides the voices of Eric, Randy, and Mr. Garrison. Stan is well known of his iconic catchphrase "oh my god they killed Kenny!" and is followed by Kyle by saying "you bastards!"
Appearance[]
Stan is a young boy who wears a blue hair with a red poofball on top, a brown coat with a red collar, red mittens, and jeans. Like all the other boys, he is rarely seen without his winter attire. Without his hat, he has short black hair.
Personality and traits[]
In earlier seasons, Kyle and Stan's personality were pretty much the same: intelligent, high morals, and strong beliefs. Out of all the boys, he is the most mature out of the group and possibly the most mature person in South Park, especially when you compare his intelligence to the adults in the show. He doesn't seem to any distinctive traits when compared to his friends: Eric is fat and antagonistic, Kyle is a Jew, and Kenny dies a lot. He is portrayed as the normal kid in South Park. His intelligence makes him the least likely to fall into scams, occults, organizations, and fads that everyone is appeal to. Additionally, he has a clearer understanding of the bizarre things that happens in his town. With the adults being the least intelligent out of the show, Stan gets quite annoyed by their sense of immaturity, especially his father, Randy. As stated before, Kyle and Stan were very similar to each other; having little differences. However, as the series progressed their characteristics became more distinct.
One recurring theme with Stan is his girlfriend, Wendy Testaburger as he was the only boy to accomplish of getting one. However, he is not immune to her breakups and whenever this happens, he will sink into depression and transforming himself along with the way. However, his struggle with depression is not limited to relationships but with growing older.
Stan is most tender and sensitive, and sympathetic out the boys such as when he couldn't see Kenny dying in the hospital or showing pity when Kyle was considered the ugliest boy in South Park Elementary.
Relationships[]
Kyle Broflovski[]
Stan and Kyle have been best friends since the beginning. They are commonly seen next to each and socializing. They even have their own adventures whenever Eric or Kenny is absent. Furthermore, Stan will usually be the one to save Kyle from incoming danger on their adventures. As said previously, they deeply show sympathy and concern to each other. But with any relationship, there is bound to be arguments and fights. However, in their case, their problems are shown to quickly resolve.
Eric Cartman[]
Stan, like all the other kids (except Butters), doesn't consider Cartman as a friend. However, he is more tolerant and nowhere near as hostile towards him compared to Kyle or Kenny In "Two days before the day after Tomorrow" they were enjoying each other's company on the boat, only to accentually crash the boat into a dam starting the episode's plot.
Kenny McCormick[]
Stan thinks of Kenny as a close friend, but not as close as he is with Kyle, In "Kenny dies" Stan was the most upset over Kenny's death and was told by Cheif to buy a gift and visit him in the hospital, but it was too late when he arrived. However, Kenny did come back in "Red Slaugh Down" and stayed ever since. In "The Passion of the Jew" They teamed up to demand Mel Gibson to give their money back since thought Passion was just a bad movie.
