Tak and the Power of Juju is a Nickelodeon's CGI videogame franchise made by THQ and Avalanche Software. The articles related to Nickelodeon's Tak and the Power of Juju video game franchise and its computer-animated Nicktoon adaptation are coincidental.

Series' setting[]

The setting of the series took place in Pupanunu, an ancient shaman village where ancient juju prophecy is taught and born with the use of shaman sorcery.

Series' gameplay[]

The gameplay of the Tak series mostly consists of obstacles, puzzles and is a colorful platformer. Like most action/adventure video games, the player can jump and attack, The player has a health-meter represented by the feather on Tak's head. One unique feature is the ability to interact with and get past obstacles with the help of animals like in Tak 1 except to it's sequel Tak 2: The Staff of Dreams where the gameplay is almost identical to the first game but with juju combat powers. In Tak: The Great Juju Challenge, The gameplay is an obstacle course with a timer counting down. In Tak and the Guardians of Gross, The gameplay is a Third-person action adventure with the same style as it's previous titles.

Series[]

First game[]

Tak and the Power of Juju is where it all of Tak's origins began with an ancient prophecy foretells that the Moon Juju, the kind protector of the Pupanunu people, would be weakened by the evil Tlaloc, an embittered Pupanunu shaman, so he could turn the Pupanunu people into sheep as revenge for not being made high shaman in favor of another shaman, Jibolba. The prophecy also mentions a great and mighty warrior trained by the high shaman who would restore the Moon Juju, defeat Tlaloc, and bring peace to the Pupanunu people. Tak must fulfill his mentor Jibolba's promise to defeat Tlaloc and stop his evil plan.

The Sequel[]

Main article: Tak 2: The Staff of Dreams

Tak 2: The Staff of Dreams" took place after the events of the series' very first title. But in the sequel, Tak and his friends is stuck in the Dream World, and is sent by the Dream Juju to fight the Dream Guardian, take The Staff of Dreams, and save the princess. After Tak refuses, he is told that if he does not do this, he will be stuck in the dream forever. Later the evil shaman Tlaloc and his army gets their revenge on Tak himself but after Tak manages to save his friends and defeat Tlaloc a third time. Tak is then waken up by Jibolba and Lok telling him the whole thing was a dream. The three walk off while being spied on by a sheep from Tlaloc's army.

Second sequel[]

Main article: Tak: The Great Juju Challenge

Tak: The Great Juju Challenge took place after the events of Tak 2: The Staff of Dreams. The game begins with Jibolba summoning the player (just like the original game) into the Pig pen. He tells them that the Pupanunu Village is the host of The Great Juju Challenge, the first in 60 years. He then tells that Tak and Lok should be back by now. It then goes to Feathercrag, a location where Tak and Lok are looking for a Phoenix so they can get a feather to enter the challenge. After fighting Woodies and learning their powers, they finally catch up with the Phoenix, which is grabbed by two unknown men. However, Lok is able to grab a feather.

Third Sequel[]

Main article: Tak and the Guardians of Gross

Tak and the Guardians of Gross is a sequel to "Tak: The Great Juju Challenge". Where in the beginning of the story, Tak complains about Jibolba making him clean the Spoiled Shrine. Jeera offers to take the J-Runner, but Tak wants to take a shortcut through the jungle. Despite Keeko's warning, Tak goes anyway. After going through a long trail full of Woodie Tribesmen, Tak finally makes it to the shrine. After fighting his way up, Tak gets to the top of the shrine. Tak decides to lift up a giant gem, and stuff everything below it. However, he cannot support the gem with his Magic, and it falls and breaks. Suddenly, the ground shakes, and these long trails of magic fly out. Suddenly, four gigantic Big Gs appear, and start wreaking havoc on the world.

Last & Final[]

Tak: Mojo Mistake is the fifth and final title in the Tak series following "Tak and the Guardians of Gross". This marks as the final video game appearance of Tak and his friends.


Appearences in other Nicktoons videogames[]

Tak has appeared in only two videogames of Nicktoon Unite videogame series, Nicktoons: Attack of the Toybots and Nicktoons: Globs of Doom and finally the online dodgeball-styled online game called Nicktoons Slimeball Multiplayer as a playable character. The nickelodeon online game Nicktoons Superstuffed: Mini Game Mania 2 where it minigames based on the series like "What is Different?" where two Taks have something different on one of them and finally "The Same Expression" where many Tak heads are floating around and have to find the heads that look alike.


TV series[]

Tak and the Power of Juju is a CGI television series that debuted on Nickelodeon on August 31, 2007. Tak and the Power of Juju consists of two eleven-minute stories per half-hour episode. It is Nickelodeon's first CGI series (produced in house) and the company's 31st Nicktoon. The series is directed by Mark Risley and Jim Schumann.

The television series tells of Tak and his friend, Jeera, including his master, Jibolba, and other characters. Tak is faced with the responsibilities of being a shaman as he daily has to save his village from villains. The series aired every Saturday and was not as popular as other Nicktoons, and cancelled its run on January 24, 2009, due to low ratings and mixed to negative feedback from critics and viewers alike.

Development[]

Tak and the Power of Juju trilogy was developed by Avalanche Software for the PlayStation 2, GameCube, and Game Boy Advance. The game was developed under the aegis of the Nickelodeon television channel, a precedent at the time because the game was not based on any of its then existing shows or films.
