The 2nd incarnation of Viacom Inc. was a mass multimedia conglomerate that emerged in 2005 and ended in 2019. This version of Viacom is a spin-off of the original. The separation of the original Viacom in December 2005 caused the company to split into two entities: Viacom and CBS Corporation both of which are owned by National Amusements. The 2nd Viacom was the 9th largest media company.
In September 2016, their parent company encouraged CBS and Viacom to remerge again by sending a letter but the deal was rejected in December. In 2018, the merging of Time Warner with AT&T and Disney's acquisition of 21st Century Fox introduced heavy competition, Viacom was interested in buying The Weinstein Company, however, after reports of sexual assault against the owner of the company, the deal was cut off. In August 2019, the two companies were considering remerging again and December, the two companies merged again and became known as ViacomCBS.
Despite the fact that the Viacom name has been discontinued after the 2022 renaming of ViacomCBS to Paramount, the name is still used by the international division, Viacom18.
