VistaVision was a film format created by Paramount Pictures in 1954. As an early widescreen format it mainly competed with CinemaScope, which was owned by 20th Century Fox and had its introduction in 1953. It was primarily used on films produced and distributed by Paramount but was also used on films from other studios. The format ended traditional usage in 1986, but is still used occasionally today.
